Currently: Olympic Field Hockey Players & A Trip to Mexico

July 20, 2018

Though I only just published a Currently post, I thought it was necessary to create yet another one simply because the past week I have been completely absent from posting mostly due to technical difficulties with my computer. I have also had quite a busy week and thought it might be nice to sit down and reflect on the past few days' activities.

Field Hockey
For the past four days, I have attended a field hockey camp from 9:00am - 3:00pm with my close friend. While I am not usually one to jump for joy about going to camp, I knew it would be a great way to prepare for the upcoming fall season and spend time with my friend since she will be gone most of August and soon after she returns my family will be dropping my sister off at college. To my pleasant surprise, I really enjoyed the camp.

The photo pictured above is of my friend and me with two olympic field hockey players. On the left is Marvin Bam, who played for the South African team, and on the right is Katie O'Donnell Bam, who played for the United States. It was very exciting to meet and learn from the Bams, not only because of their olympic history, but also because their outgoing personalities made learning new skills especially enjoyable.

My family and I are departing early tomorrow morning for Mexico. We are staying at a hotel called Banyan Tree in Playa Del Carmen. My mom has actually traveled to this part of Mexico before for a wedding several years ago, and she loved the beautiful beach and fun shops selling all sorts of colorful crafts. As you may know if you have read several of my other posts, I am love to travel, so I am very excited to explore Playa Del Carmen.

Though I have only just started this novel, I thought I would share it anyways since that I will be reading this book while waiting at my gate at the airport and on the two and a half hour plane ride to Mexico tomorrow. I am participating in the summer reading challenge for my school, and we were given several options for a faculty sponsored book to choose. I picked out Let The Great World Spin, by Colum McCann. I was very attracted to this novel after discovering it's settingNew York City in the 1970sand I have a feeling I am really going to love this book.
